creepy smothering story

A barely readable story of immature heroine,knee jerk alpha, shallow family and seriously deranged OW/OM bother/sister.

You drugged me!' . 'Aren't you satisfied with the degradation you've already inflicted on me? His possession of her was brutally swift, making her gasp in sudden pain.

'Is this how our life together is going to be? Every time I turn my back are you going to attempt to escape me?'
'I am not your possession,' Danielle objected tiredly. 'You lied and cheated, forced me into a marriage I didn't want. Can you blame me for wanting to escape?'

"A woman, a donkey and a walnut tree, the more you beat them the better they be." Wow. How to have a happy marriage. There was simply nothing to warm up to, especially the classic weak simpering ending. This story is really bad writing.

I like the book, but I didn't love it. I had a hard time connecting with the main characters. I thought their dialogue and chemistry was okay and normally I like this author's work, but this one was just not my cup of tea.

S. KEOKI SEARS is a Project Manager and owner of Project Catalyst Corporation, based in Durango, Colorado. He has extensive experience managing large heavy civil and high-tech construction projects worldwide.

ROBERT O. SEGNER is Professor of Construction Science in the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University. He has been a faculty member for more than 30 years, and became a construction educator following a number of years of practice in the construction industry at the superintendent, project manager, and executive levels.

JERALD L. ROUNDS is Associated General Contractors Endowed Chair in Construction Management and Construction Engineering at the University of New Mexico. He served as project manager on a number of commercial building projects prior to more than 30 years as a construction educator.

This earlier work revealed why efforts at change so often end in failure and outlined the eight critical steps needed to turn things around. Having researched more than 100 organizations in the midst of major changes, Kotter and Cohen now reveal the core problems people face at each of these eight stages and provide straightforward solutions. Their main finding is that the central issue concerns not structure or systems but changing the behavior of people. An overview of how people see and meet change is followed by chapters on the steps to successful, large-scale change, including increasing urgency, building a guiding team, getting the vision right, communicating for buy-in, empowering action, creating short-term wins, and persistence. Not a bad book, but there are better choices

I read this at the same time as Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard. Sadly, it suffers in comparison. On its own, "Heart of Change" is not a bad book. There are 8 steps to making successful change, with a main theme that people need to make an emotional connection in order for change to be successfule ("See -> Feel -> Change"). However, Kotter doesn't really connect the theme specifically to his 8 steps. That specificity is where "Switch" shines. Switch uses a similar theme - that you need to appeal both to the logical and emotional sides, and you need to make it easier for change to happen by changing the environment. The difference is that Switch focuses on BEHAVIOR. I think this is a significant part of any change effort. While Kotter talks about appealing to the emotional side, he's still strongly in the camp of business cases and bringing employees around. The Heaths have an approach that's more easily broken down and replicable. I had a few takeaways from this book - for example, that quick wins have to be both meaningful and visible - which is why I gave it 3 stars. Sadly, that's not enough to make this a "must have" for a business leadership library. Switch, on the other hand, is staying on my shelf.

I did not read the original but read this for an Master's Organizational Change class. This book is amazing. Very well written with practical stories that reinforce the 8 step change process and why most change initiatives don't work. Service oriented change versus metric driven change is the real prize. If you have anything to do with change management this is a must read. For the price this book has trumped the $100 textbook on Organizational Change I also had to read. Read it, pass it on, and start changing the right way.

Dull, Dry Book with Poor Anecdotal Examples

While I appreciate what Kotter is trying to do with this book - show how organizations can transform from dysfunctional and unproductive to fluid and dynamic - the book is just okay. Kotter intersperses his writing with anecdotes from CEOs in all different fields, and while these are powerful individuals, writing is not their forte, and their stories come across as jumbled and trite. There are true gems in this book - Kotter's organizational advice is practical and can be applied to a wide array of operations - but the book isn't as fluid as it could be with anecdotes interrupting and sending confusing messages that are difficult to interpret (the CEOs reference individuals by first name, condense stories so they aren't clear, etc.).
This book could really make a difference for many leaders and organizations, but I would only read a fraction of the CEO examples.

Dr. Jack Purdum - 'C' for the Arduino, A Real Teacher, Learn it from the ground - up ! A tool for the neophyte.

I have currently finished Dr. Jack Purdum's book "Beginning 'C' for Arduino". There's a ton of books out there for learning 'C', but most assume a basic knowledge of programming at some level. This guy assumes NOTHING! If you are a complete neophyte, have no former programming expertise and are willing to pay close attention and invest the time; then this book is for you. This text does not dispense pabulum, rather it builds paragraph upon chapter in an exceedingly well thought out dissertation that even I can follow, albeit with a few re-reads. The concepts are well defined and laid out in a context of real world comparison that really helps things make sense. Many of these concepts are very foreign to the neophyte, but Jack compares them to things we understand and drives the concepts home. Often times he uses some levity, which under the cloud of frustration, is most welcomed. There have been times reading this book that I felt that I just couldn't continue because I didn't have the gray matter needed. I went back, re-read, re-did the sketches and finally saw the light. It just takes perseverance. 'C' is no picnic when you are trying to learn it from scratch. There is, in my prevue, no better teacher than Dr. Jack Purdum when it comes to teaching not only the basics, but giving you, with effort, the tools to accomplish your mission. This Prof. Rocks ! With a bit of review, I can now actually WRITE some fundamental code that actually works, first time through the compiler. Dr. Jack isn't just an academic in an ivory tower at some university, he's a real world teacher that truly understands how to get some very difficult concepts across and make them stick ! Please look at some of the preface offered as a preview to the book.

I have a tendency to write reviews for very good stuff or the very bad stuff. Rarely anything in between. This book was one that I was going to skip reviewing but the more I got into it the more value I found. The author has a somewhat "professorial" style that can be somewhat off-putting. If he irritates you try to ignore it, he has probably earned the right to have a high opinion off himself. In terms of his substance and content...it is excellent. Cari Ferraro has been practicing calligraphy for over three decades. She has studied with many of the finest calligraphers teaching today, and taught broad pen calligraphy to children and adults. Her design business, Prose and Letters, has fulfilled calligraphy commissions for weddings, corporations, institutions and individuals since 1982. She also maintains a website as an online portfolio and catalog of her cards, prints, books, and wedding certificates. Her calligraphic manuscript books are collected by individuals and libraries around the country. Her work has been featured in the magazines "Victoria", "Letter Arts Review," and "Somerset Studio," the Calligrapher's Engagement Calendar, and several wedding books. Cari makes her home in Northern California.Arthur Newhall had a unique and varied background in the lettering and graphic design fields. His work included type designing, theater lobby displays, movie titles, sign painting, advertising art, lettering for reproduction, and art for screen printing. He also worked as art director for an advertising agency. All of these disciplines added to the refinement of his calligraphy skills. A stickler for precision and style, Newhall was always ready to help and guide the novice as well as the professional. He was one of the innovators of one of the most spectacular letter styles ever created--the Cartoon Casual--as well as a Modern Script of the 40s and 50s.Eugene Metcalf's career as an artist-designer has been punctuated by national and international awards. Metcalf's natural talent in the various art fields has established him as a top calligrapher and designer. Lettering design became a specialty leading him to the creation of logos with a variety of commercial applications. Of his more than 30 years in the commercial art industry, almost half of them were spent as art director and top designer for major outdoor advertising companies in the Los Angeles area. In the past several years, Metcalf has been a freelance artist in the full spectrum of commercial art, including national magazine covers.John Stevens is an internationally known calligrapher, designer, and lettering artist with 30 years of experience. An art major and former musician, he found his true calling when he was introduced to lettering while apprenticing in a sign shop. John's prestigious client list includes Rolling Stone, TIME, Reader's Digest, and Newsweek magazines; Pepsi; Atlantic Records; HBO; Lucasfilms; IBM; Disney; and many others.

Great reference book to have on hand

Great book with mainly calligraphic lettering styles and the author takes you step by step through forming many of them properly. Includes suggested supplies and has practice pages in the back which I copied instead of tearing up the book. It's a softcover book, but not flimsy at all. I started going through the book and trying several of the calligraphy styles as soon as I unpacked it :) Very happy with the samples and layout of this book. The beautiful lettering styles and instructions would make this great for a beginning or experienced letterer. Thank you for renewing my interest in this seemingly disappearing art.

Great book for the beginner calligrapher

Good book for learning calligraphy for the beginner. In my opinion, it is well written with lots of beautiful illustrations on getting started, i.e. tools, paper, etc., as well as having various handwritten techniques. There are practice pages, but I rather would photocopy these. It is a large book, which I was not expecting, but appreciate. I think it is worth the purchase.
