A Message from the Authors
“Just imagine!”
Sometimes it’s not as easy as it sounds, is it? Well, help is on the way. In this book, you’ll find the secrets of a true master builder-- so be prepared for some pretty advanced techniques.
Because we don’t want to bore you with theory, our focus is on building in practice, guiding you with step-by-step instructions. By creatively using the same pieces in 10 different configurations, you’ll see the amazing potential of the LEGO brick.
We hope that this book helps you to discover the many possibilities that the LEGO system has to offer, unleashing your creativity and inspiring you to create your own original models!
From the Author
Lately there has been an increasing demand for inspirational LEGO books. We have seen idea books including some building guides, books that explain the building system in theory, books that present some of the biggest and best creations over the world, but none that actually teach and show you how you can use your bricks to their maximum potential.
This book should cover that gap, in which we quickly introduce the reader on how they could use the building system, before putting things in practice, guiding them with step-by-step instructions. The other advantage is that we only use one palette of quite common bricks to build all the models, to further emphasize the potential of the brick in combination with our imagination.

Well-Designed and Great Fun!
By Spencer
The book begins with a nice introduction, including some expert building tips, such as how certain numbers of plates, when laid on their sides, equate to the same width as certain bricks, plus how this can be used for cool effects in building. Next, it jumps right into the instructions. One of the things that I found most fun was how all ten (yes, ten!) of the models in this book can be built from the same set of pieces. In fact, those pieces are all from one set. So, if you own the set, "5867: Super Speedster," you already have all of the pieces you need! Most of them are relatively common and should not be hard to find, even if you do not have that set. (There is a full list of all parts used at the front of the book.) The ten instructions are then marked for various levels of difficulty.
I opted to build the Classic Car, and, because I was utilizing the Lego Digital Designer, I could build it in colors other than the red, white, and black that came with the set (blue with yellow accents and green upholstery in this case). Turning to the portion of the book with the instructions, I immediately found that each step lists the parts needed in addition to showing where they go.
My building experience went well. While I anticipated having issues keeping the book open on account of the spine binding, it stayed open well on its own. Because I was not using actual bricks, the build took a bit longer than it would have otherwise. Additionally, there were a few places, where the instructions were not entirely clear, because the other side of the model was not shown in the instructions or the angle was not entirely descriptive. Some of the build techniques, especially in this model (which, you will note, is marked as being complex) were a bit complicated...but they were awesome! The inventiveness that went into this design was mind-blowing, especially it the use of SNOT techniques (Studs Not On Top).
The authors, Nathanal Kuipers and Mattia Zamboni, did a fantastic job in arranging this book, and I found it to be a lot of fun. The best part of all this - Volume 2 of The Lego Build-It Book will be released in September of this year, and it will contain more amazing vehicles!

Great book with fantastic building techniques
By Carl Merriam
When I first opened this book it was like getting a brand new LEGO set. Everything from the beautiful full-color printing to the perfectly rendered instructions is reminiscent of the LEGO gold quality standard. As I worked my way through the 10 different models I was pleasantly surprised over and over again with the various and ingenious building techniques.
The author chose a less-collectible set to base the book on. That's good, because you can still get it on ebay for about retail, even though it has been discontinued. Pick up both and you're ready for some serious LEGO fun!

By Robin Sather
I am a big fan of alternate builds - using just the LEGO pieces from one set to build lots of cool different models. This book provides beautiful instructions for 10 awesome alternates for set #5867, plus tons of extra building tips, ideas, and inspiration that every LEGO builder will love. - Robin Sather, LEGO Certified Professional
