A student required to use this text should keep two general points in mind.

1) The figures are not as well proof-read as the text. Spelling should be crosschecked with text examples. Some of the errors are more substantive than this.

2) To keep the text simple, some oversimplifications are used and some things are stated as fact that aren't necessarily so. Description of membrane electrical behavior leaves potassium leak channels out of the resting potential. Muscle cramps are used

as an example of ATP depletion when cramping has many causes - rarely including ATP shortages. An older used copy of a more ambitious A&P text would be a valuable backup to this one.

To any of Dr. Clark's students of A&P 1 & 2, this is the book to use for your studying. You will not need a recorder in class to capture the lecture because every chapter is like reading his lecture. He uses great analogies that help you understand the physiology of your body. He also breaks things down into steps and simplifies it so you can better understand. This book has been a great tool for learning the anatomy and physiology of the body!

Anatomy is not by any means an easy subject, but in his book dr Clark make it simple to understand. I am so glad i bought this book and save the trouble of trying to figure it out with other anatomy books that were not as helpful. The analogies he uses makes all the difference.

About the Author
Dr. Michelle "Shelley" McGuire teaches in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Washington State University. She is the author of several published articles, and specializes in the research of understanding of how breastfeeding and lactation influence both maternal and child health and well-being. Recent research has focused on investigating how maternal diet influences milk fat content and, thus, energy intake and fatty acid consumption of the breastfeeding child. Dr. McGuire has been teaching the basic nutrition course for several years and has a strong appreciation of the course, its goals and objectives, and the variety of student needs. This experience coupled with her strong writing and research background has helped her create an exciting and refreshing text for the introductory nutrition course.

Dr. Beerman teaches in the School of Biological Sciences at Washington State University. She is the author of several published articles assessing the impact of bioactive components in soy (isoflavones) on health parameters in menopausal women. More recently, she has been studying the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in rural, impoverished regions of Guatemala, and efficacy of a novel approach to improve iron status in women and children. Dr. Beerman teaches the 300-level nutrition course for health-related majors (Nutrition, Health, and Disease), as well as courses related to women's health (Biology of Women). She also teaches a course in teaching methodology (Teaching Methods in Higher Education) for graduate students. Since joining the faculty at Washington State University in 1989, she has taught more than 12,000 students and has been the recipient of several college and university teaching awards. Dr. Beerman's years of teaching experience, combined with her wide knowledge base in nutrition, health sciences and educational pedagogy, has helped create this innovative introductory nutrition text.

I got exactly what I payed for. The book arrived on time and was brand new. The supplementary online access was really helpful for reviewing topics that might be confusing. About the Author
Dr Trevor Powell is a consultant clinical psychologist who has worked in the field of brain injury rehabilitation and adult mental health for the past 20 years. Other titles by Dr Powell include The Mental Health Handbook and Head Injury: A Practical Guide. Mr Kit Malia BED, MPhil, CPCRT, is the only Certificated Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist in the UK (via the Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation, USA), with a research degree in Neuropsychology. He initially trained as a teacher for people with learning disabilities and, following 6 years of teaching, has spent over two decades working as a cognitive rehabilitation therapist with adults who have acquired neurological injuries, at one of the largest brain injury rehabilitation units in the UK: The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court. He has published scientific papers on cognitive and psychosocial rehabilitation, and clinical standards in brain injury rehabilitation. He is the primary author of Brainwave-R (an extensive collection of cognitive strategies and techniques for brain injury rehabilitation). He has also co-authored The Brain Injury Workbook with Dr Trevor Powell. Mr Malia has lectured at various conferences in Canada, USA, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, The Netherlands, Slovenia, New Zealand and the UK. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation, USA, and is the chairperson of the International Division for the SCR.

Fantastic!!!

This book is wonderful for those who are higher functioning traumatic brain injury patients. My husband was "not worth therapy time" to most because he copes so well with his injury. It was not nearly good enough for him and his personal standards. Once we found a therapist willing to try for a higher level, we spent 2 months running her out of materials. She put in a request for this book and 2 others. The first appointment with this book he left with a migraine from working so hard!!! It's the first time his brain was ever pushed to those levels.

We have continued to see LARGE strides of improvement in his functioning in all areas since beginning this text. WELL worth it, even as a personal investment.

Useful and practical cognitive rehabilitation tool.

Terrific workbook. Plenty of information explaining how the brain is damaged by trauma and the impact this trauma has on cognitive functioning, cognitive ability, personality and mood. This manual contains easy to follow, practical and progressive exercisings that target key cognitive functions such as working memory and higher order thinking and processing skills.
A very useful resource for people working with brain injury patients as well as family wanting to support those with brain injury.
Terrific for those who have damage as a result of stroke. Well worth the money.

great book for SLP's working with adults

I use this book all of the time! It's a must have for any speech-language pathologist working with adults with cognitive impairments. It has great activities and also great information for patient and family education about executive function disorders. The only draw back is that because it is a British English text some of the activities have items unfamiliar to American's (i.e. wellington boots)
